Clay Art

19th March —  13th June 2010

This Spring the gallery features a special exhibition featuring the work of some of the country’s talented ceramicists. Pottery is one of the oldest  art forms with examples of pottery figures and animals dating back to  24,000BC. However  examples of functional pottery

are much later in origin.

In this focus we have examples of   both functional

and  decorative work. With mugs and jugs from

Pauline Zelinski and Stacey Manser-Knight and  jewellery from Allison Wiffen,  together with decorated tiles from Pauline Hughes,  candle holders and garden  stakes from Bridget Arnold,  birds and animals from Hannah Turner and Rob Whelpton  and  sculptures from Lucinda Brown.  We have also tried to highlight some of the different techniques used  by artists working with  clay.
